Journals and magazines (print and online)

These provide information on specialist topics and can contain more topical information than books. Relevant titles for Product Design include the Design Journal, Design Studies and International Journal on Interactive Design and Manufacturing.

Many journals and magazines are available online, but some are also (or only) in print in the library. Library Search or library staff can assist with helping you locate the journals in each library or online.

Databases for product design

Here are some key databases:

Art & Architecture Source – A journal article database with international coverage of 400 art, design and architecture journals from 1984 onwards.

Art, Design & Architecture Collection (Proquest) – Journal articles covering art, design, product and industrial design.

British Standards Online (BSOL) – The British Standards Institute's flagship database of standards. Used by professionals around the world, it is the most comprehensive and authoritative source of British, and adopted European and international, standards.

Design and Applied Arts Index – Bibliographic database of journal articles published in over 450 international craft and design journals since 1973 and includes data on over 50,000 designers, craftspeople, studios, workshops, and companies.

MaterialDistrict – A resource of innovative materials and processes, useful for projects in architecture, interior design, product design, industrial design, fashion and more.

WGSN Lifestyle & Interiors – A product and interior design resource that provides trend intelligence to those working in the design, lifestyle and interiors industry.

Workbooks, guides and tutorials

• LinkedIn Learning – online courses and video tutorials for creative, technology and business skills.

Special collections

• Film, TV and radio resources – Access to a variety of resources including Box of Broadcasts, Kanopy and other audio and moving image collections.
• Image resources – A curated list of image databases and links, including advice on copyright issues.
