Researcher Concordat
The concordat to support the career development of researchers.
UWE Bristol is strongly committed to enhancing the support for researchers as an integral part of creating a more positive, diverse, inclusive and open research culture and environment. As a part of this commitment, UWE Bristol became a signatory to the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers (Researchers’ Concordat) in July 2024.
The Concordat is an agreement between universities, research institutes and funders to support the career development of researcher in the UK. It was launched in 2008 and relaunched in 2019 with the aims to increase the attractiveness and sustainability of research careers in the UK, and to improve the quantity, quality and impact of research for the benefit of UK society and the economy.
The Concordat sets the expectations and responsibilities of researchers, their managers, employers and funders to achieve this aim. By signing up to the Concordat, the University made a public commitment to Concordat’s principles and an engagement to develop, publish and implement an Action Plan.
The Action Plan is based on the three Concordat Principles:
- Environment and Culture
- Employment
- Professional and Career Development.
A set of specific actions to support each of the principles has been developed in consultation with a range of stakeholders across the University. The Action Plan has been approved by the University Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee and the University Academic Board. The document can be found via the link below.
