About the course
UWE Thrive is a free online course for international students to help you with your transition from your home country to life in the UK and studying at UWE Bristol.
Several learning modules will introduce you to your new study environment, the UK education system, the rules, regulations and expectations and the help and support available to you, so you are fully prepared for your studies.
The course will be available on 18 August 2025.

Course content
By completing UWE Thrive you will:
- Get to know how studying works at UWE Bristol.
- Learn how to use digital tools for your course.
- Improve your language and study skills so you feel confident.
- Understand plagiarism, academic honesty, and how to use artificial intelligence (AI) following best practice.
- Learn how to write an effective CV and promote yourself to employers.
Eligibility
UWE Thrive is available to all new international students studying with us for the first time, including foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate students.
You must have your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter and have your UWE Bristol email and password to join UWE Thrive.
How to access the course
You can access Thrive on Blackboard, UWE Bristol's digital learning platform.
You will receive email instructions on how to log in to Blackboard.

Thrive Live: Living and studying in Bristol
Monday 1 September 2025
This lesson will introduce you to Bristol and highlights important information about what to bring, shops, health, money at UWE Bristol.
Thrive Live: How studying at UWE Bristol will be different for international students
Tuesday 2 September 2025
This lesson will outline some of the main differences many international students experience when studying at UWE Bristol compared with studying in their own countries. We will focus on the different types of classes, the teacher-student relationship, and assessments.
Thrive Live: Communicating with my lecturers
Wednesday 3 September 2025
This lesson will explore the different platforms you might use to communicate with your lecturers. During the session you will evaluate how to write an appropriate email to a lecturer. You will also consider how to arrange and conduct a meeting with a member of staff.
Thrive Live: Academic skills support
Thursday 4 September 2025
This lesson will give an overview of the different types of academic skills support and online resources (including Studiosity) that you can access to help you with your studies.
Thrive Live: Meet, chat and get ready for UWE Bristol!
Friday 5 September 2025
This is a fun and friendly lesson where you can meet other new international students before you arrive at UWE Bristol.
You will also learn how to meet people at UWE Bristol through clubs, events, and activities. Let's get ready for an exciting start together!
